FAQs

What can I expect with the initial appointment?

Prior to your first appointment, I will review the forms you complete online, so that I have a good picture of your personal history, and what you would like to work on now. During your initial appointment, I will take the time to learn more details about your presenting problems, treatment history, strengths, and identified goals. We will also review the process of behavioral health counseling and what you can expect from it. By the end of our first or second session, I will provide you my initial diagnostic impressions and how I think we could proceed, and make sure this matches with your interests, lifestyle, and needs. From there we will collaborate together to develop a treatment plan, which will include your tentative goals and the methods we will use. It makes most sense for us to agree on a plan that we will both work hard to follow, and that ensures your success.

I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?

I am so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions! I believe therapy is most beneficial when you are actively participating in the process, and are open and committed to testing out new ways of thinking, feeling and behaving. It’s also the work you do outside of our sessions that will really help you see your personal growth and development. This includes practicing new skills that you will learn in our sessions. I will ask you to practice outside our meetings, and we will work together to set up meaningful assignments for you to try out on your own.
